Humans will set foot permanently, but “colonize” implies thriving. Life on Mars might mean living in lava tube caves for natural protection, using AI companions, and wearing suits for surface walks. Food from vertical farms, power from nuclear reactors. It would function as a multi-planetary insurance policy for humanity.
