I think life on Mars is unlikely to ever occur. It depends on economics, and, given the direction the world is leaning, I think we would not be able to sustainably afford it. If we could, life on Mars would involve remote work for Earth corporations, asteroid mining support, and evenings watching dust devils dance outside.
