Share a proverb you think is completely wrong and make your case.

I think “Good things come to those who wait” is wrong. In reality, there are very few situations to which this saying applies. Often, progress requires action.

An example of this in my life was when I first awoke from a 7-week long coma in 2011 and I could only move by applying great effort. I noticed that the more active effort I applied towards recovering from a brain injury, the faster I recovered. So, my brain suppressed every idea that did not have to do with my recovery. Two months later, I was able to stagger out of the hospital.

Unfortunately, my recovery had only just begun. I spent over a decade fully learning everything back. That was my recovery – the severe brain injury had mitigated the abilities of my entire brain in a big way. All of my abilities had been affected, save for very basic ones like breathing, and so my mind became a blank slate. I had to re-learn everything.

My biggest struggle was re-learning how to be social-able again. My impulses could not be controlled, and I accidently blurted out horrible, mean things to my friends. The emotional labor of spending time with me became to much for all my friends but one.

Claire is the one who nourished me back to health the entire way. We had enormous fights, but she always forgave me, no matter what I said to her. I am so grateful for all the support she provided me with.

My internal family also supported me in a big way. After this injury, all my loved ones rallied together to support the fuck out of me and nurse me back to health. I worked hard, but I could not have recovered as well as I did without them.
