Russel Brand is more of a movie actor than a philosopher, but i have heard some great ideas come out of his mouth in the past. From 2013-2017, he encouraged systematic disruption by advocating for a redistribution of wealth. I was a teenager during this time, and his open mind’s conclusions radicalized me. I was exposed to his ideas by viewing various interviews with him on Youtube on my laptop in my room.
In his 2014 book, titled Revolution, he expresses his ideas on corporate greed, environmental destruction, and the “incestuous” relationship between big business, government, and media. Revolution encourages a radical decentralization of power. Resources and decision-making, he argues, would be given back to local communities. Giant, faceless companies would be replaced with co-ops and community-managing enterprises. Further, Revolution encourages people to pursue personal development, work fewer hours, and focus on the health of life on Earth.
Russel Brand is both a skilled actor and a wise philosopher. In Revolution, his authentic, passionate voice’s puts the frustrations of Gen Y into words. His performances always make me laugh, and I’m sure our witty repartee exchange over a salmon dinner would have me folded up in laughter.
If you could have dinner with any philosopher, who would it be? Why? Comment to let me know!
