If I could have dinner with any philosopher, I would have dinner with Sheryll Tuttle Ross. Sheryll Tuttle Ross is a philosophy professor at the university of Wisconsin in La Crosse. She is the one who convinced me to major in philosophy during my sophomore year. I am pretty sure I got an A in all classes I ever took with her. She taught me a lot about the philosophy of movies, the philosophy of art, the philosophy of food, and modern philosophy. My perspective of the world was heavily influenced by Sheryll Tuttle Ross. She encouraged me to pursue philosophy in college. This shaped my worldview in a big way.
One thing I remember about Sheryll Tuttle Ross was that she encouraged curiosity. I think this is part of the reason I got As in all her classes – I questioned everything. She cited this as a reason that I should major in philosophy. My curious nature may have counted as participation. In fact, I’m quite sure it did. I can’t imagine how else I got As in those classes.
If you could have dinner with any philosopher, who would you choose, and why? Comment to let me know!
