My dad always answered all of my questions from the time I could first speak as a young child. This inspired my curiosity. In fact, I became so curious that, two decades later, I did something amazing.
I graduated college with a double major AFTER I crashed so bad that I was comatose for seven weeks. At 16, when I was still in high school, I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Think: stroke victim. By using all the might and willpower I could muster, though, I was able to walk when I was discharged from the hospital, albiet clutching the walls for balance. I image that I would be in a much more dilapidated, immobile state today if it had not been for all the support I received from my loved ones during my time in the hospital.
My entire family and all of my friends were very supportive of me, even when I was at my worst. I spoke words that would have easily destroyed regular friendships. However, my friends possessed a vast amount of patience, and gave me all the grace in the world as the rest of my mind slowly recovered.
Today, my body and my movements are functional. I still get mistaken for a mentally retarded person often, but I do not care so much what others think now. What is a challenge your family helped you overcome? Comment to let me know!
