My favorite historical figure is Harriet Tubman (1822-1913) because she escaped slavery. She also made about 13 missions to rescue about 70 enslaved people. She worked for the Union army, too, and is credited as the first female U.S. citizen to lead an armed military operation. She is viewed an icon of courage and freedom.
