Life before the net was getting a new TV (wow in color). it was on most of the day and when you live alone it was company. Soap operas, favorite evening sit coms. To this day I cannot knit without the TV for company. Nor do jigsaw puzzles. The TV kept your mind focused. And some of us remember life even before TV. Lol.
I was four when we got our first set, it was one of those all in one deals with a radio, record player, and screen. My dad was terrified of it, afraid to turn a knob, but I was near sighted enough that even though I couldn’t understand what ‘Vertical Hold’ meant, when the screen started to roll and I hit that button, it stopped. Aha. He was sure a four year old child was going to break a set that weighed as much as a freezer.
Once he realized what I was doing, I was on call for problem solving.

Life was neighbors, visiting, card games, monopoly, cribbage. Shopping. Waiting for the weekly cardboard announcement of what movie was playing that week at the local movie theater. This was before movies were a thing on TV, and there were no radio stations that catered to teens. I took a look back online to see if they had any film of some of the earlier kid’s shows. dear lord they were awful. One I never missed was “Rootie Kazootie”. incredibly awful, you can still see bits online, if you’re feeling brave.
