My favorite sport to watch right now is the’ “Doomsday clock”. The doomsday clock is a visual representation of how close scientists believe we are to a global catastrophe. It is now the closest to “midnight,” or “the end of the world,” than it has ever been: 85 seconds until scientists predict that human extinction will occur. The doomsday clock show how our aging world leaders have decided that profit is more important than human life.
Reasons for the doomsday clock is inching closer to our doom than it ever has before include dangerous trends regarding nuclear risk, climate change, and the rise of national autocracies in the world. World leaders need to start prioritizing future generations and stop treating the world like a video game.
