A good leader protects the team, even when protection costs status. My old boss protected his team at all costs. He would listen, which is half of it. He would share incredible stories too, like ways in which he was bullied while in the army. He is black, and he told me that, once, the white soldiers locked him in a chamber which I believe was airtight.
When I asked him how long he was trapped in there, he said, “I don’t know.” This indicated to me that he had lost consciousness. A brave man, he went on to work for the federal government, and became the boss of an entire office.
