I get into a state of wui-wei (effortless action) more easily when I don’t think about what I’m writing about. If I let the words just flow out, I get “in the zone” and write very well. In this state, I have good “voice,” so I’ve been told. This is because, when one is in a state of wui-wei, one performs an action with perfection and anonymity. I learned about this in my classes. It was either from Asian Philosophy at UW La Crosse.or from The Science of Wellbeing at Yale. Maybe both.

I write best when I write poetry. If I can get into a state of wui-wei when I’m writing poetry, incredible words come out. This is because I am perfectly at ease, yet my actions flow effortlessly. But, for some reason I now find it difficult to get into a state of wui-wei when I’m writing poetry. That’s why I never share… because, lately, it’s been bad. Not my best work.
