Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

I wish I had learned the importance of the skill of meeting new people earlier in life. My family moved across the state in 2008. In my
new home, I sat alone for the entire summer. That was, until I went to camp and met Claire at a camp my mom made me go to.

I am so grateful to Claire. Claire quickly became my friend when the leader of camp introduced us. The leader of camp pulled us
aside and asked Claire, “Can you fit one more girl in your cabin?”

“We already have too many people in our cabin,”she said very quickly, and looked me up and down. “But, sure!” she said. And with that,
I had met my own high school best friend.
Claire had a lot of best friends. She was my very best friend, but I was not hers. This did not diminish her philia (friendship love)
towards me. This turned out to be very lucky for me.

When I was in a horrific accident in 2011, Claire visited me in the hospital every day. She never stopped visiting. Even when all I wanted was to
do was watch the movie “Shrek,” she still came to visit me. I am positive I would not have made such a complete and total recovery.
When I was discharged, hospital staff gave me someone’s relative’s old Iron Man Medal. The medal was from a competition six years ago.
However, it conveyed the same message. I had impressed hospital staff with the incredible willpower and tenacity I displayed during my
recovery.
