Cats because they are more suitable for people. Pet cats evolved in Africa, and so did humans. Humans and cats have been hanging out with each other for millennia, and their cuddles with us are almost intimate. Then again, I had a cat growing up, so this probably makes me a little biased.
I have never owned a dog. However, from my limited experience with them, they are very friendly towards all humans, not just their owners. They venerate their owners to an almost servile degree. This does not beget my respect, which is why I like cats more.
