The Giving Tree by Shell Silverstein was one of the first books I ever read. It is very good. It is a picture book about a little boy who forms a bond with a tree. But, the boy grows up, and keeps using the tree to build things he needs throughout his life. The tree gives him all that he asks for. In the end, the boy is very old. He visits the tree, but all that’s left of the tree is a stump for him to sit on.
My favorite book from childhood was a poetry book by Shell Silverstein. I used to often read it before going to bed. The book is very silly; Silverstein plays with the imagination well. He is a poet, songwriter, cartoonist, and musician. I admire him very much. He is a role model for me. I think it would be fun to write a poetry book one day.
