The chirping of the birds all around me reminds me to appreciate my own existence on this diverse planet. Sitting in a two-room tent with windows, I take another hit from the bowl. Ease rushes into my tense body. I feel a gentle breeze on my face, and I relax in perfect ease, taking in this moment.

I hear a woodpecker tap on a tree in the forest nearby. A whippoorwill calls out from behind and a little above her. A bird I don’t recognize chirps to the right. A darker gray cat slinks by the tent, headed straight for the bowl.of food we leave out. for the cats.

There are six cats now. My partner has been feeding Orangie 1 and 2, the calico cat, and the black cat since they were kittens. The light gray cat is their mother. The dark gray one is new on the block, and we hear her fighting with the other cats sometimes.

Let me know in the comments if you want to hear more about the cats. If you have a story about something in nature, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
