I have a new appreciation for all the support I received from friends and family after my accident in 2011. The other day, I was reminded of this because of my experience waiting in an emergency room. I saw firsthand how hospitals are not fun places to visit.
In the emergency room, wailing screams came out of some rooms while gasps and gargles came out of others. Visitors and patients starved while we waited – there was no food to speak of. The waiting room did not even have a fish tank.
I was visiting the emergency room to support my partner’s mother. She was getting her feeding tube removed. She’s recovering from a stroke, but she’s making a lot of progress. It’s very emotionally draining to be in the nursing home with her, but I have felt very emotionally fulfilled watching her recover.
