“Writing is really easy,” I said when I was about eight years old. “All you have to do is write down what you’re thinking.” In a way, I was right. But, I was sheltered. I had not yet come to the realization that thinking, or, in particular, the imagination, can lead to distress.
For example, imagining what can be seen or read on the news often lead to imagining distressing images. Sometimes, what we imagine is best left in the subconscious.
