That infants are not born with a sense of self, but develop it through both physical and symbolic play with a caregiver.
Babies start life thinking they are the universe, only to slowly realize they’re just one tiny person in it. Maybe that’s why grown-ups spend so much time trying to feel important again. First, we forget we are separate, then we forget we were ever connected. Life is just a long game of remembering and forgetting.
