I respect everyone’s opinion. However, I will use my philosophy degree to argue for the nonexistence of god.

A popular argument for the existence of god is the cosmological argument. It argues that, since everything that begins to exist has a cause and the universe began to exist, the creator of the universe was none other than god. This viewpoint was understandably held by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century, but may now be explained away by a rudimentary understanding of quantum fluctuations.

In quantum mechanics, certain events appear to occur without a cause. Particles can pop into and out of existence seemingly at random in a vacuum. Therefore, Aquinas’s argument falls short.

Another popular argument for the existence of god is the teleological argument, which is also called argument from design. It argues that the universe exhibits complex order and design, and that this is best explained by an intelligent designer, i.e. god.

The rigorous scientific study behind evolution by natural selection provides a naturalistic explanation for the complexity and order found in biological organisms. Over time, simple organisms evolve into more complex ones through random mutations and natural selection, without the need for an intelligent designer.

I have provided counter examples to two of the major arguments for the existence of god. If you enjoyed this content and would like to see more of it, please leave a comment letting me know!

all of the philosophical arguments for “god” fail rather amusingly. the ontological one is my favorite since “maximally great” means nothing.
