How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

When I was in 1st grade, America was attacked, and the twin towers fell. This significant life event influenced my perspective on life in that, previous to this, I had been a sheltered child.

9/11/2001 was when I first truly realized that America was not a safe place. I was fortunate to have remained ignorant to this reality until this time, and I remember my perspective on life shifting in a dramatic way. It enlightened me of the reality that the world was not a safe place.

It’s truly heartbreaking that such a devastating event, the 9/11 attacks, was the catalyst for your first awareness of the world’s darkness and vulnerability. The shift from the innocence and safety of childhood to the understanding that evil exists and that the world is not always kind is a difficult, painful transition, and it sounds like you experienced that quite early in life.

It’s powerful that you were able to recognize how this event impacted your view of the world, and that you still carry that realization with you today.
