What was the best compliment you’ve received?
Now, race is a construct and every single human life is equally valuable.
Context: I am white. I was hanging out with a bunch of non-white people in Madison, Wisconsin. The conversation turned to white people’s unsavory behavior, such as the stereotypical Karens and Beckys. I sat there saying nothing, except agreeing with them from time to time.
“Madi’s not white,” interjected my friend Byer. I smiled and said nothing.
The reason I consider this to be the best compliment I’ve ever received because it un-included me from the white people the group was shit-talking at that moment, and it felt pretty good to be included in a way.
