Not. The patriarchy still looms insidiously over every achievement women make. In America, women actually lack more rights federally than when I was born. So, the direction in which we are headed does not exactly look promising.

My mother did not change her name when my parents were married. At the time, this was revolutionary. Personally, I plan to fight the patriarchy by taking my name to the next level of matriarchy. I plan to improve upon this by taking my mother’s last name when I get married, if I get married. If I have any children, which I do not plan to at this time, they will take my mother’s last name as well. Spin the patriarchy on it’s head.

These are just ideas, not necessarily plans. If you have a good reason that I shouldn’t change my last name to my mother’s when I get married, if I get married, please share your thoughts by leaving a comment.
