Pre-menopausal women, if you hate bleeding ounces of blood out of your vagina each month – this fate is actually optional. Getting an IUD placed more often than not reduces your period from ounces to droplets, and, in 10% of women, it eliminates their period completely.

An IUD lasts for eight years, and is 99.6% to 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy.

I highly recommend being sedated for the placement itself. I was, and the only pain I felt was mild to moderate cramping for up to about 36 hours afterwards. If one is not sedated, the placement of the IUD can be very painful, and I’m surprised doctors still offer the option.
