The fact that feminine hygiene products are taxed makes me outraged. I’m so glad I complained about having a period to my gynecologist, or else I never would have been privy to such an effective lessening of the blood draining from my uterus each month. Such information should be taught in schools along with sex ed.
My period made me outraged to be a woman every month, so much so that I’ve considered taking male hormones, which I’ve heard make you feel awesome, by the way. When my family told me that they did not think this was a good idea, I turned to the internet, and I went to my gynecologist requesting an endometrial ablation. Getting an endometrial ablation would have made it not possible for me to have children. I didn’t care; I wanted the patriarchy to stop profiting off of my suffering so much that I was willing to negate my own fertility to do so.
Luckily, my gynecologist enlightened me as to another, less permanent solution: an inter-uterine device. After my IUD was placed into me under sedation, I bled for about 24 hours. But, after that, my period became so light that I no longer need to intervene to suppress it. A few drops is not enough to warrant a method of catching the blood. I can wear normal underwear without applying protection; the quality of blood is so little that it has never bled through my pants.
