Girls especially, and all teens, need to receive more warning on the dangers of going over 100 mph on rural roads.
Tuan D. Le, the lead investigator in a study published Thursday in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, says TBI incidence rates have been declining for boys since 2012, but not for girls. Le said efforts to reduce brain injury in children’s sports programs have been effective, but more needs to be done, especially for girls.
In October 2011, when I was 16, I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Despite this, I graduated from high school and then from UW La Crosse with a double major in 2019.
“You’re young, your brain is still flexible, you can beat this,” is the first thing I remember my father saying to me though the claustrophobic green mesh.
This is the most important concept you as a parent can emphasize to the child who is recovering from a traumatic brain injury. The fact that they need to try as hard as they can, to exude more effort than they have ever exuded to escape from this nightmare. The harder they try, the sooner the nightmare will be over.
