A snippet from college

I watched Zoryg do something really mean. Horrified, I said “You’re a piece of shit.”

He turned to me and, keeping a straight face, said, “We are all pieces of shit.” *

This was confirmation of my belief, bellum omnium contra omnes, which is Latin for the war of everyone against everyone. Thomas Hobbes and I believed people at their very core are evil.

This was only an excuse to say whatever I wanted. I made a group of friends who said whatever they wanted too. They also did whatever they wanted. I, not wanting to feel left out, became one of them.

*this exact conversation happened hundreds of times from 2016-2017 in La Crosse, Wisconsin
