religious freedom in the workplace

I work in an office doing clerical work and reading out loud to my blind coworker,. This blind coworker is a born-again Baptist, and he often makes religious comments in the workplace. I am a Satanist, so, especially in light of current events, Dan’s religious speech really bothers me. So, yesterday, I voiced my concerns to my boss Katie. She said that Dan saying phrases like, “God bless you,” at the end of a phone conversation were acceptable phrases to say because my workplace allows for religious freedom.

“So, since this workplace allows for religious freedom, would it be acceptable for me to say, ‘Hail Satan,’ in the office?”

Her response was, “Well, I don’t know, but you bring up a good point. I will talk to Maria.” Maria is my boss’s boss.

I crumbled. “Please don’t tell Maria I’m a Satanist. Forget the whole thing. I’m sorry, I will just suck it up.”

“No, you bring up a good point. I will ask her about it.”
